Winter session courses are added to your spring semester hours and bill. Therefore, your spring financial aid will apply to your winter session charges. Emergency loans will be available for winter course books only beginning December 15, 2008.
The fall 2009 payment deadline is Aug.4, 2009 for those students who have registered for fall classes prior to July 1, 2009. Bills were e-mailed to students the week of July 6,2009. If payment is not received by the due date, classes will be cancelled.
The amount due can be determined by viewing account information on the UNCGenie web page.
Financial aid will not be applied to your student bill until Student Health Services confirms that you have satisfied your immunization requirements. If you haven’t already done so, make sure to complete the Student Medical Form and submit it to Student Health Services in order to provide information about your health and immunization history.
Emergency loans will be available for the Fall semester no sooner than August 17, 2009. Be aware if your spring refund check has already been issued, you will not be eligible for an emergency loan.
You now have the option to have your student refund directly deposited into your bank account instead of having a paper check mailed to you. To set this up, please login to the Student Account Center through the secure area of UNCGenie and create your refund profile.
Full time attendance is not required to receive financial aid. You may receive most types of financial aid with at least half time enrollment. Half time enrollment for an undergraduate is 6 credit hours and half time status for a graduate student is 3 credit hours of enrollment at the 500 level or above. Most financial aid awards are made assuming you will be full time. If you choose not to enroll full time for a semester, your financial aid award and disbursements will be adjusted.
The Financial Aid Office policy on loans is that we will not disburse loans to you unless you are enrolled full time or you have provided us with a Financial Aid Response Form that indicates your level of enrollment so that your cost of attendance can be adjusted to reflect your true enrollment. Students should complete this form as early as possible to insure that their loan disbursements occur in a timely manner.

The UNCG Financial Aid Office has implemented an online application for financial aid. You will need to log into UNCGenie, click on STUDENT SERVICES AND FINANCIAL AID, click on FINANCIAL AID, click on MY ELIGIBILITY, and then click on the SUMMER AWARD ESTIMATOR. The estimator is designed to let you know if you have any remaining eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant or Federal Student Aid loan that you can use to cover your costs for summer.
This process will take a moment so be patient as it completes the calculation and assesses your eligibility. If your eligibility is $0 you have used all of your Federal Pell Grant and Federal Student Aid Loan eligibility and will need to look at other payment options.
After you receive your estimate, if you have remaining eligibility you will need to proceed to the application portion of the process. Complete each question on the application. When listing the courses you are taking for summer, please include the full course number and section (e.g. BIO-555 01). Please make sure you put the course in the correct session. Courses that begin prior to June 25, 2009 should be considered first session courses and those that begin after this date should be considered second session courses. Courses that extend the full length of the summer should be placed in the “Other Session” field. Please remember that undergraduate students must enroll in at least 6 credit hours and graduate students must enroll in at least 3 credit hours at the 500 level or above in order to receive most types of aid.
Graduate students who have no remaining Federal Student Aid Loan eligibility may have additional loan options and should continue to the application process. If you are an undergraduate dependent student and have no remaining eligibility, you should proceed with the application if your parents are interested in applying for the parent PLUS loan.
This online application process is available between March 1 and April 24. If you have not completed your summer application online by this date, you will need to visit the Financial Aid Office to complete an appeal form in order to apply for aid.
The UNCG Financial Aid Office has instituted an online application process to apply for emergency loans. This process determines your eligibility for an emergency loan for the current term without having to first come to the Financial Aid Office.
You can find this process on UNCGenie by going to STUDENT SERVICES AND FINANCIAL AID, clicking on FINANCIAL AID, and then clicking on the EMERGENCY LOAN application.
Please make your request in whole dollars (do not include cents in your amount requested).
If you will be repaying the loan with pending financial aid you can currently apply for a maximum of $700 if you have expected aid to cover that amount. The system will not allow you to continue if you request more than the $700 maximum.
If you will be repaying the loan with a source other than financial aid, the maximum you may receive through this process is $300. You must provide contact information and possibly documentation before your loan is approved.
You will be contacted via your UNCG email address concerning the status of your application.
If your loan is approved, you will need to come to the Financial Aid Office and pick up an approval notice to take to the Cashier’s Office to receive your funds. There is a $5 processing fee for all approved emergency loans that will be taken out by the Cashier’s Office when you receive your funds. If you have outstanding financial aid requirements or have already received an emergency loan for the current semester, you will be unable to apply for an emergency loan through this process.
The state of North Carolina recently passed the 2009-2010 budget. This was a difficult task for our representatives and they had to make some tough decisions about budget cuts. One of the decisions made was to cut the funding for the Education Access Rewards North Carolina (EARN) Scholars Fund Program effective for the spring 2010 term. Students who have been awarded the EARN scholarship for 2009-2010 will remain funded for the fall 2009, however over the next few weeks the spring 2010 amount will be removed from their financial aid package. The Financial Aid Office will work diligently to offer new awards to cover the need; however funding is limited and not guaranteed. If you are an EARN recipient and have questions, please feel free to contact our office at 336-334-5702.
